Hogwarts Legacy really has been one of the bigger commercial successes in video games over the last five years or more, proving the appetite for original stories in the Harry Potter universe is still there. It was so successful that Warner Bros immediately ordered a sequel, and that remains under development at Avalanche Studios and Portkey Games.
As with all of these things, it’s probably going to be a while before anyone actually gets to play it, and you’ll want to fill your hours with good gaming fun in the meantime. If you are planning another playthrough of Hogwarts Legacy on the PC any time soon, there is a mod that’s well worth downloading to improve your quality-of-life as a player.
Over on the Nexus Mods website, you should be able to find the download page for the Enhanced Third Person Camera mod. As the name suggests, it’s an overhaul of the camera systems and settings employed by the base game, designed to make the player’s viewpoint both more comfortable and more cinematic.
It technically changes three camera types depending on where the player is and what they’re doing. The full list of changes it makes is as follows:
- Indoor Camera: Adjusted for better visibility in tight spaces, reducing that “claustrophobic” feeling inside the castle.
- Outdoor Camera: Slightly pulled back to let you soak in the beautiful landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.
- Broom Flight: Tweaked FOV and distance to make flying feel faster and more heroic.
The only camera mode that remains unaffected is when aiming or swimming, which the developer explains they were unable to alter due to the way the developers set the game up. They said that, “Despite multiple attempts to override them, the game engine handles these transitions differently and they currently do not reflect custom changes.”
The mod also has plenty of tangible benefits that simply make the game a lot better and more comfortable to play. Exploration is also more logical, particularly in flight, and the world is more easy to navigate as a result.
As with all of the projects over at the good ship Nexus Mods, the Enhanced Third Person Camera mod is entirely free to download. Other than that, it’s a great time to work through the game again while we wait for more news on the Hogwarts Legacy sequel, which should hopefully come in relatively short order, if it is to line up with the HBO adaptation.
