After initially being slated to take place in the Australian state of Victoria, the 2026 Commonwealth Games are now set to kick off in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 23, beginning with the opening ceremony at the OVO Hydro indoor arena.
More than 3,000 athletes from 74 nations will compete for 200 gold medals across 10 sports (16 disciplines, including para sports), such as athletics, swimming, track cycling, netball, basketball, and more.
Compared with the 31 sports featured at Birmingham 2022, Glasgow 2026 will include just 10 sports, with events such as hockey, diving, rugby sevens, and cricket all removed. This is to accommodate rising costs – the same reason Victoria withdrew as host in the first place.
