After 20 minutes in the Principality, it looked as though Paris Saint-Germain’s defence of their title would end in the play-off stage as they fell two goals behind to Monaco. However, Luis Enrique’s side delivered a thrilling comeback thanks to a strike from Achraf Hakimi and a brace from substitute Désiré Doué.
The Parisians followed up that win with a commanding 3-0 victory over Metz to move back to the top of Ligue 1. Doué was on target once again, while 19-year-old Warren Zaïre-Emery delivered another hugely impressive display as they won their seventh consecutive league game at the Parc des Princes.
While PSG will be full of confidence and will expect to make the last 16, Monaco showed at the weekend that they can perform their own epic comeback. Trailing 2-0 away at Lens, they scored three goals in 10 minutes to claim all three points.
It was a morale-boosting victory for Sébastien Pocognoli’s side ahead of the trip to Paris, but they cannot afford another slow start. Instead, they’ll be looking to the likes of Ansu Fati and Folarin Balogun to deliver an early goal that would make things especially interesting.
