Sabalenka vs Rybakina Preview
Sabalenka arrived in Melbourne as the firm favorite and has lived up to her billing with a host of scintillating performances. The top seed has swept past all comers in Melbourne to reach a fourth consecutive Australian Open final and has yet to drop a single set. On Thursday, she thrashed Elina Svitolina 6-2 6-3, overpowering the 12th seed as she hit a string of winners.
Now on an 11-match winning streak, Sabalenka will be full of confidence as she bids to win the Australian Open title for a third time. However, she will have some demons to overcome, having suffered a shock defeat in last year’s final to Madison Keys.
Rybakina has been equally impressive in reaching the third slam final of her career. The fifth seed has also yet to drop a set and has been particularly impressive in her last two matches, powering past second seed Iga Świątek in the quarters and then American Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals.
The 2022 Wimbledon champion has lost just one of her last 20 matches and is one of the few players on tour who can match the power of Sabalenka. She also possesses a positive record against the top seed on hard courts, having won six of their 11 matches on the surface.
