It’s almost impossible to contemplate Tadej Pogacar not breaking every major Tour de France record going, but with arch-rival Jonas Vingegaard and new kid on the block Paul Seixas each in superb touch for the 113th edition of La Grande Boucle, the reigning champion is going to have to bust a gut for it.
Aged 27, Pogacar already has four TdF titles to his name – only Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain have won five. The Slovenian is on course not just to draw level with those four greats but, eventually, leave them in the dust. Mark Cavendish’s record haul of 35 stage victories is in his sights too.
