Warning! Spoilers for Invincible on Prime Video follow.
Fans of Prime Video’s Invincible have started debating the significance of animation errors after spotting a mistake in Season 4 that made Mark Grayson look a little too much like his dad, Omni-Man.
The TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s original comic book series’ fourth season has drawn praise for how it’s upped the ante as hero Mark Grayson fights off the fearsome Viltrum Empire. Each intergalactic battle has pulled in more attention than the last, but as fight scenes with major players like Grand Regent Thragg have demanded more intricate visuals, fans are unsure whether to laugh or cringe after a few eagle-eyed viewers spotted some…bizarre blemishes.
The most egregious instance can be caught in a split-second moment during the Season 4 episode Don’t Do Anything Rash, which premiered April 15. Just as Thragg speeds off with Thaedus’ decapitated head, Mark’s head morphs into his father’s, minus the mustache.

“I’m pretty sure it’s actually Nolan’s face just without the mustache,” one Reddit user pointed out. “Either way how did this slip through.”
While Mark’s new look closely resembles his father’s shaved face, others have pointed out that he also happens to look like his mother Debbie’s boyfriend, Paul. On one hand, the moment only shows up for a few frames of footage and is far from the most important thing happening in the story at this moment, but on the other hand, fans are finding it hard not to poke fun at it.
“Mark was a-Paul-ed by what he saw,” another Reddit user said.
“It’s a reference to how Mark is slowly learning how to channel an aspect of the Great Paul,” someone else added. “Spoilers, but fully unlocking this power is how they beat back the Viltrumites from Earth.”

The animation in Invincible has been the subject of criticism from a portion of its fanbase for years. Fans have spotted similar animation errors in the past, but Season 4 has become particularly divisive for the quality of its visuals.
A completely separate hiccup from the same episode has also been put under the microscope online. At its midpoint, Zoe a.k.a. Tech Jacket fires a small explosive device at one of the Viltrumites, propelling him off into space. It’s a move that works so well that, as the camera cuts to show Allen the Alien fighting nearby, we can see the blown-up Viltrumite unceremoniously blink out of existence.
“Every time they start flying and it’s just the PNGs wiggling through the sky I have to stop and laugh,” one X/Twitter user said. “The voicework and occasional high budget aura farming keep me in tho.”

For every Invincible watcher hoping to see the Prime Video show consistently reach some of the more impressively animated moments the show is also known for, others say they are willing to forgive the aforementioned gaffes or even ignore them altogether. The show’s biggest fans say the occasional mistake has done little to distract from high highs, such as Thragg’s showdown with Omni-Man and Mark, or the fight with Conquest from Episode 5, Give Us A Moment.
“It’s obvious that it’s an animation error,” one fan said, sharing their thoughts about Mark’s morphed face with a laughing emoji. “And tbh, I didn’t notice because I was too immersed for bulls**t.”
“I’m probably the last person to defend Invincible animation but even I get annoyed whenever the fans ignore episodes with great animation and only fixate on the lowlights,” another added.
Invincible will air its Season 4 finale, Don’t Leave Me Hanging Here, this Wednesday, April 22. Animation errors aside, we here at IGN have enjoyed most of what the latest batch of episodes has had to offer. We called last week’s episode a “Masterpiece” in our 10/10 review, calling it the show’s strongest yet.
