Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa are officially set to co-star in a new Star Wars Canon story that explores an untold chapter in the Skywalkers’ history. Beloved Legends arcs such as Luke Skywalker’s New Jedi Order, Leia Organa and Han Solo’s long-running family saga, the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Second Galactic Civil War, and the rise of characters like Mara Jade, Ben Skywalker, and Darth Caedus no longer form part of the official timeline. The replacement of Star Wars‘ extensive Legends continuity removed decades’ worth of stories centered on the Skywalker family, but it also created room for new interpretations of many of the same stories.
Star Wars‘ Canon gained the freedom to revisit the same periods from entirely different angles. Luke’s efforts to restore the Jedi, Leia’s political career in the New Republic, Han and Chewbacca’s adventures after the Galactic Civil War, Ben Solo’s upbringing, and the gradual emergence of the First Order can now develop without adhering to Legends’ continuity, which allows authors to both honor familiar ideas and introduce new characters, conflicts, and outcomes that better connect to the sequel trilogy.

Next year, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa are officially returning in Beth Revis’ Star Wars: Twin Crossroads, a novel that explores the largely unexplored timeframe between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Scheduled for release on April 6, 2027, through Random House Worlds, Twin Crossroads centers on Luke and Leia during their Jedi training. The siblings embark on a dangerous mission to Imperial-controlled Coruscant, where they confront the lingering influence of the Empire. Though the novel expands on the twins’ brief flashback from The Rise of Skywalker, it continues the narrative threads of Revis’ previous novel, The Princess and the Scoundrel.

Luke Skywalker’s search for ancient Jedi knowledge, his earliest attempts to rebuild the Order, and his relationships with students before Ben Solo’s fall remain fertile ground for novels, comics, animation, and games. Leia Organa’s transition from Rebel general to New Republic stateswoman and Jedi apprentice has only begun to receive attention. Han Solo and Chewbacca spent years undertaking missions for the New Republic before returning to civilian life, a period that has barely been depicted compared to the Clone Wars or the Galactic Civil War.
The success of projects like Andor and the first seasons of The Mandalorian shows how Star Wars can thrive just as well beyond the Skywalkers. However, leaving the original cast behind would be a missed opportunity at this point. Marvel’s ongoing Star Wars comic lines have already shown how much dramatic potential exists between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, while a variety of novels have enriched the years after the Rebel victory with new political conflicts and personal milestones.
