I’ve just seen the sun for the first time in weeks — and right on cue, one of Garmin’s biggest solar watches with ‘infinite battery life’ is down to its lowest-ever price

It’s fair to say this has been a dismal winter across both sides of the Atlantic. New York is under feet of snow, while here in the UK we’ve had nothing but non-stop rain for weeks on end. However, the end is in sight: I ran under blue skies and sunshine yesterday (in between bouts of more rain), and I have faith it’ll be a bright and beautiful rest of 2026.

As luck would have it, Amazon is offering two great deals in the US and UK for the Garmin Instinct 2 Solar, a watch that uses Garmin’s proprietary Power Glass technology for potentially ‘infinite battery life’ when exposed to three hours of sun each day.

Garmin Instinct 2 is showing its age, but it’s still a fantastic watch worth getting at a discount, especially the solar models. We gave it five stars in our review, saying “if you’re in the market for a watch that’s both practical and fun to wear, this is the one for you.”

If you’re out in bright sunlight, the watch’s Power Glass technology will reduce the drain on its battery life: staying out for three hours or more in bright conditions will offset the drain entirely, hence in the right conditions, you get ‘infinite’ battery life. However, if you’re after something more recent, there’s always the Garmin Instinct 3 to consider.
