James Gunn’s DCU Is Officially Back With Pulse-Pounding New ‘Supergirl’ Trailer

[

James Gunn took over DC near the end of 2022, and only two years later, his universe officially began with the release of Creature Commandos. The animated HBO series introduced stars like Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., who also went on to feature in the first DCU movie, Superman. Grillo later returned at the end of 2025 in the sophomore season of Peacemaker, making him the only actor to feature in all three DCU projects. Only time will tell if this streak will continue into next year, when the DCU returns to the big screen with Supergirl on June 26. The film will officially introduce Milly Alcock to the world as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, who briefly appeared in a small role opposite David Corenswet in Superman.

This afternoon, DC Studios premiered the second official trailer for Supergirl ahead of its June premiere. The new trailer shows the best look yet at Jason Momoa’s Lobo, who was first introduced at the end of 2025 in the first teaser for Supergirl, which racked up over 20 million views during its first week on socials. In addition to Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El and Jason Momoa as Lobo, Supergirl also stars Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emilly Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and even David Corenswet as Kal-El. Craig Gillespie, famed for his work directing Margot Robbie’s 2017 hit I, Tonya, will direct Supergirl with a script from Ana Noguiera. James Gunn and Peter Safran are involved in the film as producers.

What Else Is Coming Down the Pipe for DC in 2026?

James Gunn’s DCU had one big movie release with Superman and one big TV launch with Peacemaker Season 2. The DCU will follow a similar model this year, with Supergirl being its feature film and Lanterns being its primary HBO Max series. Although Lanterns still does not have an official release date on the calendar, it has been confirmed that the show will premiere this August. It stars Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. Gunn’s cinematic universe will return in 2027 with the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, starring David Corenswet as Superman opposite Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Alcock is expected to appear as Supergirl, though this hasn’t been confirmed.
