Jimmy Fallon Joins ‘SNL U.K.’ Weekend Update

[

Ania Magliano and Paddy Young, the hosts of Weekend Update on “SNL U.K.,” enlisted Jimmy Fallon in this week’s episode to roast Jeffrey Epstein, Benson Boone and Lily Allen, among others, “to boost our ratings,” they joked.

After Magliano remarked, “It may seem like Britain and the United States have drifted apart. The special relationship is in trouble,” Fallon appeared from beneath the desk to place his hand on those of the hosts during the “Hand in Hand” sequence. “We’re just two hosts, sat next to a more famous host, asking him to boost our ratings,” Young said.

As romantic music played in the background, Magliano said, “Look Jimmy, I know America’s been seeing a lot of other countries, but we were your first love. We’ve given each other so much.” And Young added, “We gave you Harry Styles.” To which Fallon responded, with a broad smile, “Yeah, we took your Harry Styles and made Benson Boone. Our one flips.”

Magliano joked, “Sure, merging our cultures has gone badly in the past. Look at Lily Allen’s marriage.” Young added, “Sometimes it goes well. Look at Lily Allen’s album.”

Fallon said, “And yes, we may say things differently, but they mean the same thing, like aluminum.” Magliano corrected him, “Aluminium.” “Parking lot,” Fallon said. “Car park,” Young interjected. Fallon said, “Epstein.” Magliano said, “Andrew.” Fallon said, “Epstein.” Young said, “Mandelson.” Fallon repeated, “Epstein.” To which Magliano responded, “Stephen Hawking.” “Stephen Hawking was there?” Fallon asked in disbelief. “Stephen Hawking was there,” the hosts said in unison.

Magliano concluded, “On July 4th, you celebrate leaving us. But from this day forward, April 25th will henceforth be known as codependence day.”

Earlier in the show, Fallon had joined this week’s host, “Bridgerton’s” Nicola Coughlan, during her opening monologue. Foo Fighters were the episode’s musical guest.

Elsewhere in Weekend Update, targets for jokes included Meghan Markle, Ellen DeGeneres, Russell Brand and Michael Jackson.

Sat next to the poster for the film “Michael,” Magliano said, “The new Michael Jackson biopic has been released in cinemas nationwide. It’s the first ever film to be rated 12 and under.”

Young added, “The intended third act of the Jackson biopic, which was to depict the sexual abuse allegations, has been scrapped for legal reasons, leaving something short and underdeveloped. It’s what he would have wanted.”

Earlier, sat next to a photo of Brand, Young said, “This week, former entertainer and entertainer of sixth formers [16 and 17 year olds] Russell Brand has announced he’s running for London mayor, and the London mayor is running away.”

Magliano added, “As part of his publicity drive, Russell Brand was interviewed by Piers Morgan yesterday in a show I’m affectionately calling ‘Women’s Suicide Hour.’”

Alongside the weekly host, Young and Magliano, “SNL U.K.” stars Al Nash, George Fouracres, Larry Dean, Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Celeste Dring, Annabel Marlow, Jack Shep and Emma Sidi.

“SNL U.K.” is produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio’s U.K. production team and Broadway Video for Sky and NOW. Lorne Michaels is executive producing, James Longman serves as lead producer, Liz Clare is the director and Daran Jonno Johnson is the head writer.

Alongside airing live on Sky and streaming service NOW, “SNL U.K.” is available to watch the next day on Peacock in the U.S.
