EXCLUSIVE: Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi is in production in Los Angeles on Doe, his feature directorial debut, where he plays the title role, starring alongside Mark Webber (Flesh and Blood), Leah McNamara (Normal People), Brandon Scott (Dead to Me), and Brandon Perea (Nope).

Written by Mescudi, Doe explores themes of addiction and survival through the lens of a man living on the streets of Hollywood who, over the course of 24 hours, drifts through a series of encounters that pull him in and out of the cycles of his compulsion.

The film will feature original songs by Kid Cudi, who’s exec producing alongside Karina Manashil under their Mad Solar banner, with Webber, Anthony Baldino, and Ryan Lacen producing.

“Directing for me has been the ultimate dream of mine since I was a little boy,” Mescudi told Deadline. “I’ve always been fascinated with film, and I’ve been sharpening my sword for years waiting for this very moment. It’s truly been the best experience filming this movie and I can’t wait for the world to see a true work of passion and love, made with friends.”

A Grammy-winning musician, record producer, and actor coming off the release of his eleventh studio album, Free, Mescudi comes to Doe after directing several of his own music videos, and teaming with Kenya Barris to create Entergalactic, the Emmy-winning Netflix special serving as a companion piece to his album of the same name. As an actor, Mescudi’s also been seen in Ti West’s horror trilogy consisting of X, Pearl, and MaXXXine, along with Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, and the lauded indies Meadowland and James White. He lent his voice to Young Love, Matthew A. Cherry’s animated series for Max, and has also been seen in We Are Who We Are, Westworld, and How to Make It in America on HBO.

Mescudi is the subject of the Amazon doc, A Man Named Scott, and is also voices one of the leads in Jeron Braxton’s upcoming animated feature Slime, which he’s also producing, and for which he’s creating an original soundtrack and score. His Mad Solar recently wrapped on its next film God Backwards, directed by Adam Mortimer, in which Mescudi stars opposite Jessica Rothe. He is repped by Three Six Zero, Brillstein, and The Team.

Webber is repped by Nathan Culliver Management, Atlas Artists, Cameron’s Management, and Schreck Rose Dapello; McNamara by The Artists Partnership and Luber Roklin Entertainment; Scott by Innovative Artists, Sweeney Entertainment, and Felker Toczek Suddleson; and Perea by CAA and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
