If this fall feels a little empty, that’s because the new season of Landman won’t return as scheduled. Starring Billy Bob Thornton as crisis executive Tommy Norris, Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western series follows the cyclical highs and lows of oil boomtowns like Midland, Texas. As the middleman between M-Tex Oil CEO Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) and the working-class riggers, Tommy’s the guy who ensures everything runs smoothly.
But the oil industry is a merciless beast. At any given moment, prices can soar, the market can crash, and the powerful can lose everything in a matter of seconds. That’s the everyday reality for Tommy, which only gets more complicated in the aftermath of the Season 2 finale. With everything currently on Sheridan’s plate, Landman fans may have to wait a while before they get all the answers to Tommy’s future.
What Happened in the ‘Landman’ Season 2 Finale?
In Landman Season 2, Tommy is blindsided by Monty’s unexpected death. In the aftermath, Monty’s wife, Cami (Demi Moore), takes over as CEO of M-Tex, only to discover the company is neck-deep in debt. Monty had used millions meant for a Gulf of Mexico gas well to fund Texas oil wells, leaving Cami desperate to keep the company afloat. She eventually accepts funding from Gallino (Andy Garcia), a cartel-connected criminal posing as an investor and the same man who saved Tommy after he nearly got killed in Season 1.
Meanwhile, Tommy’s son, Cooper (Jacob Lofland), is determined to make a name for himself in the oil industry. Unaware that Gallino is funding his successful leases, Cooper puts himself deeper into the cartel’s reach. Tommy has M-Tex take over the leases to protect his son and brings him into the family business. But Tommy and Cami soon clash over their approach to M-Tex, with Tommy’s caution conflicting with Cami’s willingness to take risks. Cami ultimately fires Tommy, pushing him to start CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle with Gallino’s backing, with Cooper and T.L. joining him. By the end of Season 2, Tommy’s new company is tied to cartel money, Cami is establishing herself as M-Tex’s new leader, and the rivalry between M-Tex and CTT is set to escalate.
‘Landman’ Season 3 Won’t Premiere in November 2026
Landman Season 3 won’t be returning during the November window established by its first two seasons. For context, Season 1 premiered in November 2024, followed by Season 2 in November 2025, making the delay particularly noticeable. Co-creator Christian Wallace previously acknowledged that the season was running behind schedule. Meanwhile, James Jordan, who plays Dale Bradley, confirmed in August that Sheridan was still writing the season. As of September 2026, Season 3 is finally in production, but Paramount+ has yet to announce a Season 3 premiere date.
Similar to the first two seasons, Landman Season 3 will consist of 10 episodes. Although the production window for Season 3 hasn’t been disclosed, Wallace previously shared that Season 2 took around 100 days to film. He also described producing Landman as a demanding process that involves being on set every day, including “twelve-hour days in 100-plus degree weather.” Jordan has also shared that Season 3 is expected to shoot “through the first quarter of next year,” indicating that production might continue until March 2027 at the latest.
‘Landman’s Season 3 Delay Risks a Loss of Viewership Momentum
Landman’s unusually long gap between Seasons 2 and 3 could become a problem for a series that still has plenty to prove. A lengthy delay can make it harder for a series to maintain audience momentum, and Landman arguably needs that momentum more than some of Sheridan’s other shows. Despite its success, with the show spending more than 300 days on the Paramount+ Top 10 charts, the series has received a more mixed reception than some of his biggest hits. Landman currently has a 58% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it Sheridan’s third-lowest-rated show among audiences, ahead of only 1923 and Marshals.
With so many of his shows competing for attention, Landman risks getting lost within Sheridan’s increasingly extensive TV portfolio. Sheridan is known for maintaining a packed production slate, but in 2026, his television empire is getting even busier. This year alone has brought The Madison, Dutton Ranch, and Marshals, alongside new seasons of Lioness and Tulsa King. While there’s no such thing as too many Sheridan shows, a consistent production schedule is crucial to ensuring that Landman and his other series maintain the same level of success and viewership.
