The Legend of Zelda is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and over the years we really have enjoyed some amazing games that are well worth celebrating at times like this. Moving forward, there’s presumably plenty more to come in that department, though Nintendo has remained relatively quiet about what their actual plans are for the time being.
That said, one thing we do know about that’s coming down the pipeline relatively imminently is the movie adaptation, and with the limited amount we have seen so far, it could be one of the best Nintendo cinematic releases ever. Now, a new announcement from the company about their release plans for the movie has been made, and it should come as great news for those waiting in the wings.
Over on Twitter/X, the official Nintendo page shared an update from Nintendo director and all-round legend Shigeru Miyamoto, confirming that the Zelda movie is on the way a little sooner than we all expected.
“This is Miyamoto. We have decided to change the worldwide theatrical release date of the live-action film ‘The Legend of Zelda’ from May 7, 2027 to April 30, 2027. In order to deliver it to everyone even one day sooner, the team is united in advancing production. It’s less than a year until release, but please wait just a little longer,” the post reads.
Though it’s obviously a marginal difference, every little helps, and fans are excited that they’ll be able to see what Nintendo has been cooking up sooner than expected. “I thought it was going to be postponed, but it’s been moved up to before Golden Week, which is fantastic!” one response read.
“Early release. I’m so happy to be able to see Hyrule even a little sooner,” another added.
A third was even more complimentary, saying, “It’s not a delay but “pulling it forward,” which is so rare it kinda moves me a little lol. Plus, the way they say ‘we want to deliver it even a day sooner’ feels so Miyamoto-esque, or rather, you can really sense the responsibility and love for the work…
“That’s why with Zelda, a game with insanely high expectations, just knowing they’re taking the proper time to make it gives such a sense of relief.”
What the movie is actually going to be about is another question entirely, with most believing that Ocarina of Time could serve as the foundation of the story itself. In the meantime, we’re just going to have to sit tight and hope this latest Zelda adaptation is able to match up to the brilliant games we have enjoyed in the series so far.
