Marília Mendonça Documentary Set For October Premiere On Prime Video

Prime Video has revealed launch plans and a teaser for its much-anticipated Marília Mendonça documentary. The doc about the iconic Brazilian singer is entitled Marília Mendonça: Sentimento Louco and will bow on the platform on October 16. The news comes as shooting gets underway on a feature film about the star, who tragically died in a plane crash in 2021 while traveling to a concert. She was 26.

Mendonça achieved iconic status in Brazil’s country-influenced sertanejo music genre. Amazon inked a deal allowing it to produce projects about her story, and we hear there is more to come in addition to the doc and the movie.

The doc will be the first project out of the gate. Prime Video said it has access to a huge archive of material for the documentary, including 530,000 images, 50,000 videos, as well as notes and messages that helped reveal previously unknown parts of Mendonça’s life and career. The title references one her hit songs ‘Sentimento Louco’.

Friends, family and colleagues contribute to Marília Mendonça: Sentimento Louco as it revisits the life of the singer. She transformed Brazil’s music scene as one of the leading representatives of sertanejo, paving the way for other women in the genre.

The series is produced by Chatrone and Kromaki, and directed by Susanna Lira.

Meanwhile, filming on the Marília movie started this month. Breakout star Marina Versos takes the title role in the Amazon MGM Studios project. Amazon is building out its own ‘Marília-verse’ with the doc and film on Prime Video, sponsorship of an exhibition focused on the star in São Paulo, and promotions on the Amazon Music service.
