Marquee TV Buys Sheku Kanneh-Mason Doc ‘My Favourite Melodies’

EXCLUSIVE: Arts streamer Marquee TV has plucked C Major Entertainment‘s doc My Favourite Melodies, which features celebrated British cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason.

The doc will stream exclusively on Marquee TV, which operates globally, from 21 June 2026. It sees Kanneh-Mason playing and talking about his greatest inspirations – from traditional Welsh compositions such as Myfanwy to the music of Bob Marley and Leonard Cohen, hip-hop, jazz, and 19th century composers such as Franz Liszt and Felix Mendelssohn.

One scene sees Sheku perform Mendelssohn’s Song Without Words as a duet with his pianist sister Isata Kanneh-Mason.

Aged just 27, Sheku Kanneh-Mason has already spent a decade in the spotlight following his 2016 rise to prominence when he became the first Black musician to win the BBC Young Musician Award since its launch in 1978.

At the time, Sheku was part of the trailblazing Chineke! Orchestra, the first professional orchestra in Europe to be made up of majority Black and ethnic minority musicians. In 2018, he performed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and his 2020 album Elgar made him the first ever cellist to reach the top 10 of the UK album charts.

Included in the doc is archival footage of Sheku and his siblings Isata and Braimah playing together as young protégés on children’s TV show Yo Gabba Gabba. In total, there are seven Kanneh-Mason siblings, all of whom play either violin, piano or cello. They first caught the public imagination in the UK in 2015 when six of them performed on Britain’s Got Talent.

C Major Entertainment is the producer of My Favourite Melodies, with the deal negotiated between Marquee TV and C Major, for whom Elmar Kruse represented. C
