You didn’t really think you’d seen the last of Yellowstone, did you? While upcoming spinoff Dutton Ranch is set to be released later in 2026, Marshals: A Yellowstone Story is only a few weeks away.
We’ve got all the info about when you can watch it on Paramount+, which old and new faces will be in the cast, what the story is about and whether you can watch a trailer yet.
So saddle up… we’ve got a big journey ahead.
Marshals release date
Marshals is only a few weeks away at the time of writing. It’s set to premiere March 1 on CBS in the US.
As is typical of Paramount, episodes will be available on its flagship streaming service the day after they air on CBS, meaning you can stream the Marshals premiere on March 2 in the US, UK and Australia.
We don’t yet know how many episodes the season will have, how many will drop on its debut or when the others will be released on Paramount+.
If you ask me, my money is on a one-episode premiere, with weekly drops thereafter.
Marshals trailer: is there one?
Yes! While we’re still waiting for The Madison to drop theirs, you can get a first look at Marshals above.
The trailer feels like a cross between Yellowstone, Landman and Lioness… there’s even a grizzly bear thrown in for good measure.
“Well, the Yellowstone is gone. Same for most of my family. And as for vengeance, the day’s still young,” Kayce says.
Marshals cast
The following main cast are joining Luke Grimes on his new TV journey:
- Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton
- Logan Marshall-Green as Pete Calvin
- Arielle Kebbel as Belle Skinner
- Ash Santos as Andrea Cruz
- Tatanka Means as Miles Kittle
- Mo Brings Plenty as Mo
- Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton
- Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater
Brecken Merrill, Mo Brings Plenty, and Gil Birmingham all appeared on Yellowstone, so you’ll be sure to recognize them.
I’d expect more supporting cast to be confirmed as the season progresses.
Marshals plot
Here’s the official synopsis for Marshals: “A Yellowstone spinoff that follows Kayce Dutton as he leaves his ranch life behind to join an elite unit of the U.S. Marshals.
“Kayce combines his skills as a cowboy and a Navy SEAL to bring justice to Montana. He and his teammates must balance family, duty, and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
You can see the Lioness themes here, but it doesn’t look like the show’s cowboy roots will be left too far behind.
Paramount also promises that “Kayce’s new team members will become fast favorites as they work to break Kayce’s tough exterior and become a reliable unit”.
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said via Variety: “We don’t do cheap. We do have a budget for that show that is in line with other broadcast series.”
How does Marshals connect to Yellowstone?
Unsurprisingly, this is in the Dutton name. Kayce is John and Evelyn Dutton’s youngest son, with Lee and Beth Dutton his biological brother and sister. The deceased Jamie Dutton was his adopted brother.
You might also remember that Kayce married Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and together have son Tate (Brecken Merrill). It’s unclear if these two will have a cameo role at any point, despite Kayce and Monica calling time on their marriage.
