The Marvel Universe is littered with weapons capable of destroying entire planets and rewriting the laws of reality on a whim. On Earth, the small and unassuming hand-held Ultimate Nullifier can completely erase any target from existence, along with the user themselves if their mind lacks enough willpower. Far away in the cosmos, Gorr the God Butcher’s All-Black the Necrosword, forged from Knull’s shadow, makes its wielder a cosmic executioner fueled by the blood of slaughtered deities.

Marvel’s Infinity Gems are vastly more intricate and volatile than their live-action Infinity Stone counterparts. Thanos famously erased half of all life with a snap of his fingers, and later used the Gauntlet to physically imprison cosmic concepts like Eternity and Chronos simultaneously. In recent years, Marvel introduced the pitch-black Death Stone, created by Thanos by forcefully trapping the literal universal abstract of Death inside a synthetic cosmic matrix to subvert her free will. Other modern alterations are the Ego Stone, which previously housed the consciousness of Nemesis, and the fact that the stones have bonded themselves to mortal hosts.

Although the Infinity Stones are among the most powerful objects in the whole universe, they’re often overshadowed by similar weapons, some of which serve as direct equivalent of Thanos’ gems.

In Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe and Godzilla: Infinity Roar‘s timeline, Knull is one of the few Marvel characters to escape the King of the Monsters’ wrath. Knull survives by becoming the mastermind behind Godzilla’s revenge against the Earth and powering up the kaiju with a symbiote of his own. On top of that, Knull launches a symbiote infection that takes over most of the Marvel Universe, and he gathers many of Marvel’s most powerful leaders to use them as living batteries or dormant weapons, a twisted version of the Infinity Stones Knull could activate at any moment.

Knull keeps Odin, Medusa, Black Bolt, Storm, Black Panther, Magneto, Lilandra Neramani, Namor the Submariner, and other Marvel powerhouses blindfolded and suspended in his “Garden of Crowns”, which he compares to the Void. After infecting characters like Mister Fantastic, Galactus, the Silver Surfer, and Uatu the Watcher, Knull could expand his Garden of Crowns into an even bigger weapon. However, Knull also realizes he’s missing one of the Garden’s most important members, one so dangerous he could undo Knull’s creation and defeat Godzilla himself: Doctor Doom, who now pilots a new version of Mecha-Godzilla.

Marvel’s sovereign rulers have yet to officially unite under a single banner. While the Avengers and the X-Men tend to save the Earth and the universe, monarchs and leaders such as Odin, Black Bolt, Doctor Doom, Namor, Storm, Captain Britain, Ikaris, Zeus, and the Green Scar carry the unilateral authority of entire nations, planets, and mythical pantheons. Standard superhero teams are bound by public accountability and localized jurisdictions, while an alliance of supreme rulers possesses the absolute authority to command entire armies and wield weapons of mass destruction.

These rulers’ isolationist nature keeps them from forming a definitive council. During Acts of Vengeance, a dark mirror of this concept appears when Doctor Doom, Magneto, and Kingpin manipulate global events, though their mutual distrust ultimately collapses the alliance from within. A closer, more heroic approximation occurs during The Infinity Gauntlet, where Earth’s remaining heroes fall, forcing Odin and Zeus to assemble the Skyfathers alongside cosmic entities to wage war against Thanos. Additionally, the Illuminati’s coalition of Namor, Black Bolt, Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, and Professor X demonstrates the devastating efficacy of a secret cabal of leaders operating above international law to avert multiverse-level extinctions.

When the King in Black blankets the cosmos in living darkness, standard superhero tactics are insufficient against an ancient deity capable of decapitating Celestials and controlling the Void. Godzilla: Infinity Roar‘s universe leans in favor of Godzilla and Knull, but in most other universes, a superhero team of gods and emperors would unleash an unprecedented combination of divine power and strategic intellect. Though, as Knull is about to learn, Doctor Doom can singlehandedly negate the efforts of all fellow rulers, from Black Panther to Thanos himself.
