Rogue and Gambit have spent decades circling each other through some of the X-Men’s biggest stories, balancing romance, danger and the complications of Rogue’s powers. Now, Marvel is giving the beloved couple a story built around their relationship. Rogue x Gambit (An X-Men Love Story) is a new standalone hardcover from Louangie Bou-Montes, Aabria Iyengar, and Marvel.
Scheduled for release on February 9, 2027, the 368-page hardcover will sell for $30 USD from Penguin Random House and wherever books are sold, presenting Rogue and Remy LeBeau in a supernatural adventure centered on his hometown of New Orleans. The story combines their complicated history with vampires, a devastated city and the question of whether two people who struggle with intimacy are finally ready to let each other in.
Rogue and Gambit Get A Romance-Centered Book
The premise of Rogue x Gambit (An X-Men Love Story) places Rogue and Gambit at the center rather than treating their relationship as a subplot within a larger superhero story. Rogue remains wary of her ability to absorb memories, powers and potentially life through physical contact, making ordinary affection extraordinarily complicated. Gambit, meanwhile, approaches their relationship with considerably less hesitation.
Remy’s connection to New Orleans becomes equally important when he senses that his hometown needs him. Returning home forces Gambit to confront how much his life has changed since becoming a hero. Rogue accompanies him, giving the pair an opportunity to explore their relationship while investigating a threat that puts the city itself in jeopardy.
Vampires Invade New Orleans In Rogue x Gambit (An X-Men Love Story)
The book’s supernatural storyline is going to take place after a devastating hurricane leaves New Orleans vulnerable. Vampires move into the aftermath, exploiting the city’s suffering while powerful interests begin purchasing pieces of the damaged community. That combination gives the story a distinctly modern horror angle while keeping Gambit’s personal connection to New Orleans at its center.
Rogue and Gambit eventually discover that the danger is more than ordinary criminal exploitation. An ancient vampire threat is emerging alongside the greed surrounding the city’s recovery, forcing the heroes to confront enemies that cannot simply be defeated with their usual mutant abilities. Their investigation therefore becomes both a battle for New Orleans and a test of their partnership.
A Standalone Novel Built Around Rogue And Gambit’s Complicated History
Rogue’s powers have always made closeness particularly difficult, and the new book makes that emotional obstacle center stage for her character. She understands the danger associated with her touch, which contributes to her uncertainty about intimacy. Gambit offers a contrasting perspective, trusting himself and his abilities while encouraging Rogue to reconsider the walls she has built around herself.
That dynamic gives Rogue x Gambit (An X-Men Love Story) a different emphasis from a conventional X-Men adventure. The 368-page story is positioned as a moody romance as much as a superhero tale, with the couple forced to decide whether vulnerability is worth the risk. Their greatest challenge may ultimately be accepting that being saved is not the same as being weak.
The book also promises to capitalize on the qualities that have made Rogue and Gambit such an lasting Marvel pairing. Their flirtation, disagreements and mutual loyalty have survived countless X-Men stories, but this upcoming standalone novel allows those elements to drive the narrative. With vampires threatening New Orleans and their own fears threatening their relationship, the pair face two battles at once.
Marvel’s new book is set to arrive in multiple formats, with the hardcover of Rogue x Gambit (An X-Men Love Story) priced at $30 USD and an eBook listed at $14.99 USD. An audiobook is also planned for $20 USD, although narration details are not yet available. Regardless of format, the February 9, 2027 release gives X-Men’s Rogue and Gambit a rare opportunity to carry an entire Marvel story together.
