Wolverine has historically been a bit of an underappreciated superhero in the video game department, with only a few appearances of any real note when compared to the juggernauts of characters like Spider-Man or Batman. That’s all about the change though, as the character finally gets his turn front and center in Marvel’s Wolverine, from veteran developer Insomniac Games.
The upcoming action-adventure has already given us an impressive look at what it’s going to be like, and it really promotes the brutal hand-to-hand combat that we’re all expecting from Logan et Al. In even better news, the game isn’t keeping us hanging for too long, with a launch expected in September of this year, all being well.
That said, a recent update from the developer had players scrambling, and it really wasn’t fair in light of the collective trauma of delayed games from the past.
Over on Twitter/X, the official page for developer Insomniac Games shared a post which they opened with the simple phrase “Hey everyone,” before simply going on to say “See ya Tuesday” in reference to the upcoming State of Play. Innocuous enough under normal circumstances, until you remember that it’s the exact phrase used by Rockstar to delay GTA VI, and though it’s obviously harmless trolling, it was more than enough to give fans a brief panic.
“Almost gave me flashbacks Insomniac,” one post read. While another added, “Don’t ever scare me like that again.”
Other have actually looked a little deeper into the post, and they don’t necessarily feel like it’s trolling at all. Instead, they’re speculating that it could signify the return of another iconic franchise that’s under the studio’s stewardship.
“I know Wolverine is the next big game (I don’t care about superhero games, but Insomniac’s track record is golden) but im still sitting in anticipation for the next Ratchet & Clank and/or Rivet & Kit game,” one post read.
“Please announce next Ratchet & Clank, please please,” another added.
Though a lot of State of Play events pass by fairly uneventfully, particularly in recent times, this upcoming one is set to be quite important for the brand as a whole. Marvel’s Wolverine will absolutely be front and center, and a lot of the time will be dedicated to that. We haven’t had official confirmation on what else is set to feature yet, but a God of War reveal has been potentially put forward, as well as release dates for games like Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
