Marvel’s X-Men Casting Just Set Up the Perfect Rivalry After ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

It seems that every time a new Spider-Man film comes out, the world is healed in some way. Tom Holland’s portrayal of the web-slinging hero is the light that the world needs, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day is living up to that. The fourth movie in the franchise ushers Peter Parker into a new phase of the MCU as well as a long-awaited addition. Sadie Sink’s mysterious character has been revealed to be pretty much who everyone expected.

The Stranger Things actor is portraying Jean Grey in the MCU, leading many to hypothesize what the next big casting announcement will be. Fans didn’t have to wait for long as news quickly broke that Samara Weaving is officially playing the White Queen herself, Emma Frost. The diamond-encrusted psychic has not often been represented in Marvel live-action, though she was portrayed briefly by January Jones in X-Men: First Class. The MCU is ready to show off the definitive interpretation of the character and hopefully dive into her comic-accurate storylines.

Emma Frost Is Ready to Take the MCU By Storm

In the days of Fox’s X-Men universe, a lot of the fan-favorite ensemble was left uncovered. The original trilogy, debuting in 2000, introduced the live-action world to Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm, but there is much more to Xavier’s School for the Gifted than that. Introducing the X-Men officially to the MCU has many implications, especially with the new casting of Emma Frost.

Tragically left by the wayside, the telekinetic powerhouse has a long history in the comics. Samara Weaving is about as perfect casting as any character is likely to get, meaning there is a lot of potential for the future for the X-Men. This is just the start of what is likely to be a lengthy process, but Emma’s inclusion into this new era could mean that viewers will finally get the love triangle that never made it to the big screen.

Emma’s band of Cuckoos made their way to the Fox television series, The Gifted, but this is the chance to get the White Queen right. Introduced in the Hellfire Club arc, Emma was first notable for being a villain. Eventually, she became more of an anti-hero before accepting the Xavier way of teaching young mutants. This paved the way for one of the many love triangles in X-Men’s history, which is as complicated as it is bizarre.

After Emma joins the X-Men, she falls for Scott Summers, despite his relationship with Jean Grey. This is one of the more famous arcs in the comics, and after Jean’s death, the two embark on a physical relationship. Jean has been known to die a time or two in X-Men canon, leading to other couples to pair up. Emma’s attraction to Scott is initially a surprising turn because of her history on the evil side of mutants. She falls for one of the more morally sound of the X-Men, and her feelings for Cyclops are genuine.

Jean and Scott’s relationship has practically been done to death in the live-action version of these characters, and the introduction of Emma would be the perfect way to mix things up. This also would be an interesting way to introduce fans to more comic-accurate versions of these characters. The Fox saga is infamous for taking certain aspects of the X-Men and leaving so much more on the cutting room floor. Now that Jean has officially entered the MCU and Emma is ready to take the stage, it is only a matter of time before the natural events of the comics take their course.
