MCU’s New Black Panther Suits Up In David Jonsson T’Challa Art

David Jonsson takes on the Black Panther mantle in new Black Panther 3 art.

Marvel Studios made history at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con when it announced that Jonsson would be joining the MCU movie franchise as one of its most important characters: Black Panther. The actor is set to play the adult version of Toussaint, aka T’Challa, the son of Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia and Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, who was introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The reveal has proven itself a major conversation starter for Marvel fans, with some of them taking to social media to imagine what the upcoming MCU movie‘s main character could look like in full superhero costume.

On Instagram, @bfhdesign shared what David Jonsson’s T’Challa could look like in Black Panther 3 as the title hero.

The MCU fan art has Jonsson’s TChalla in a regal Black Panther suit that mixes Boseman’s MCU costume with the hero’s classic look from the comics. The main new addition to the art is the presence of Black Panther’s cape, which is one of the hero’s most beloved design elements in Marvel Comics, but has yet to make its way to the live-action MCU movies. Jonsson’s T’Challa does not don a mask in the Black Panther 3 art.

So far, aside from Jonsson’s casting as the new T’Challa, the fact that Ryan Coogler is returning to direct after his Oscar-winning vampire movie Sinners, and how Shuri actress Letitia Wright and M’Baku actor Winston Duke will also return for the next entry in the Black Panther franchise, not much has been revealed about Black Panther 3. Given how T’Challa will have to be aged up for Jonsson, who is 32, to play him in the movie, Marvel Studios could either be bringing time travel back, or the multiverse could somehow help make that a reality.

Jonsson’s casting is exciting for the future of the Black Panther franchise. Marvel fans never got to see Boseman’s T’Challa properly lead Wakanda in the Black Panther movies. Sure, he did so in the Avengers franchise, but in 2018’s Black Panther, T’Challa was fighting to reclaim the throne when Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger overtook it, then, due to Boseman’s tragic passing, T’Challa died off-screen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Jonsson’s T’Challa can now learn from the best, with Shuri teaching him the Black Panther ways, while M’Baku prepares him to lead Wakanda as its king in the future. Adding the regal Black Panther look with the comics-accurate cape would be a great way of defining this new T’Challa’s journey in the MCU.

With the X-Men set to play a major role in the franchise after the MCU reboot that is coming in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, Jonsson’s TChalla could also become romantically involved with Storm in the MCU, much like in the comics, with the mutant having decent chances of appearing in at least a cameo role in 2028’s Black Panther 3. For now, Jonsson’s Black Panther suit remains to be revealed, but the Black Panther 3 fan art shows how exciting it could be if Marvel decided to include the iconic cape.
