Mediawan’s Ego Productions, Korea’s Flix Oven Sign Co-Production MoU

Ego Productions, the French premium label within the Mediawan Group, and Seoul-based Flix Oven have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop and produce films and series.

The agreement was formalized during French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Korea marking 140 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Mediawan co-founder and CEO Pierre-Antoine Capton signed alongside Flix Oven co-CEOs Thomas Maitland and Lee Hyojin. The signing was attended by CNC president Gaetan Bruel and Pierre Morcos, director of the French Institute in South Korea. Projects emerging from the partnership will be developed under Ego Productions, the Mediawan label led by Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin and Vincent Mouluquet.

“This collaboration goes beyond IP remakes. We want to co-develop original stories together, co-produce and build a new collaborative ecosystem,” said Kim Minjung, Flix Oven’s head of development. “Attending a workshop put together by CNC and KOFIC in Paris earlier this week for Korean and French producers on co-production was really helpful and the passion from both countries’ producers also assures me a new era of co-production is here,” she added.

The MoU comes at a moment of elevated institutional support for France-Korea screen ties. During the state visit, both governments committed to co-chairing a Moving Image Summit to be held in France on Sept. 7. Series Mania had earlier named Korea as its country of honor for its Lille forum in March.

The deal marks a push by Flix Oven into international co-productions. The company’s feature “Made In Korea” has been among the top-performing non-English titles on Netflix for two consecutive weeks following its March 12 release.
