Meet Scooby-Doo! First Look At The Iconic Canine In Live-Action Series

Woof! Netflix has revealed the star of its upcoming Scooby Doo: Origins, the first time in the Scooby-Doo franchise that the titular character will appear as a real dog.

The streamer unveiled the photo of Scooby-Doo above and teaser below. The series, which is currently in production in Atlanta, GA, is set to premiere globally on Netflix in 2027.

The quick clip begins from a dog’s POV, with the sound of paws running on the ground and an occasional bark in the background. Cue to the adorable Scooby-Doo excitedly jumping into Shaggy’s (Tanner Hagen) arms. The pup also gets the last word (or bark) in the clip. You can see it below.

Per the logline, Scooby-Doo: Origins is a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy (Hagen) and Daphne (Mckenna Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma (Abby Ryder Fortson), and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy (Maxwell Jenkins), they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.

Cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser in a secret role.

Created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, the Scooby-Doo! franchise was launched in 1969 with the pair’s first animated series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! for then-Hanna-Barbera, which was later absorbed into Warner Bros. Animation.

The series, which introduced supernatural mystery-solving teens Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers and their talking Great Dane Scooby-Doo, originally aired on CBS from 1969-76. It then moved to ABC, where various versions of the show aired until 1986. The franchise has spawned three theatrical films, more than a dozen animated series, and nearly 40 animated home entertainment movies.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman (via Berlanti Productions and its overall deal with Warner Bros. Television), André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson (via Midnight Radio), and Toby Haynes (EP/Episode 101 Director) also executive produce. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
