Morgan Spector Will Play Robert Langdon in Netflix Series

The Gilded Age star Morgan Spector is moving into the world of Dan Brown.

Spector has signed on to star as Brown’s signature character, Robert Langdon, in a Netflix series based on the 2025 novel The Secret of Secrets. The show comes from co-creators Brown and Carlton Cuse (Jack Ryan, Lost), with Cuse serving as showrunner. Netflix won a bidding war the series in May 2025, a few months before the novel was published.

“Morgan is a truly wonderful actor whose work is always filled with intelligence, thoughtfulness and humanity,” Cuse said in a statement. “He’s the perfect fit for Robert Langdon — a brilliant academic whose curiosity, intelligence and intellect are the tools of his trade.”

Here’s how Netflix describes the currently untitled series: “In Dan Brown’s thrilling novel, symbologist Robert Langdon races against ancient forces and time to rescue a missing scientist and her groundbreaking manuscript whose discoveries have the power to forever change humanity’s understanding of the mind. The series adaptation will blend futuristic science with mystical lore, delivering on the heart-pounding suspense and international intrigue that has made the Langdon stories a global phenomenon.”

Spector will be the third actor to play Langdon on screen. Tom Hanks starred in three movies based on Brown’s books, and Ashley Zukerman played the part in Peacock’s 2021 series The Lost Symbol, a prequel story focusing on a younger Langdon.

Cuse and Brown are executive producing the Netflix series with Emma Forman for Genre-Arts and Zoe Robyn.

Spector plays railroad baron George Russell in HBO’s The Gilded Age; the show’s fourth season is slated to premiere in the fall. His credits also include Netflix’s Black Rabbit, HBO’s The Plot Against America and season seven of Homeland.
