    [

Days after a student killed two teachers and two students in Georgia, another school shooting has been reported in the United States.

In this latest incident, a teenager has been critically injured at a high school in Nebraska‘s largest city.

Families rushed to Omaha Northwest High School after the shooting was reported on Tuesday, but it wasn’t immediately clear whether it occurred inside or outside the school. Tearful parents embraced their children in the parking lot as students began exiting the school after 1 p.m. Police set up a reunification site at the football stadium.

Omaha Police stated on the social platform X that a suspect has been arrested and that the school is secure after a lockdown. They assured the public that there is no current safety threat.

Local news reported that a 15-year-old was critically injured in the shooting and rushed to the hospital.

Two nearby Catholic high schools—Marian and Roncalli—were also placed on lockdown after the shooting. So far this year, over 385 mass shooting incidents have been reported in the U.S., according to the BBC. In the last four years, over 600 mass shooting cases were reported annually. The deadliest attack occurred in Las Vegas in 2017, where nearly 50 people were killed and over 500 injured.
