Netflix will soon see one of its best TV shows return with a new season, and the thriller series is continuing a major streak of hits with its second year in one key way. Netflix’s long list of shows includes several hits. The streaming service is the most well-known in the industry, with hundreds of millions of subscribers, which means new content is a must.
While other streamers maintain themselves with a few quality hits, Netflix puts out several new movies and shows every month, always ensuring there is a revolving door of hits for subscribers. Among Netflix’s best shows are quite a few thrillers, with the genre aligning itself to the binge format. After all, with cliffhangers, intriguing stories, and compelling characters, viewers always remain engaged.
Netflix’s most exciting thriller series include shows like The Night Agent, Squid Game, The Diplomat, Ozark, and more. Given how Netflix became famous for its binge model and how the thriller genre is uniquely suited for it, the streaming service knows how to keep producing exciting new thriller shows on an annual basis, with multiple releases every month or two.
Now, after three years, one of Netflix’s best thriller series is returning to the streamer. Beef season 1 debuted on the streaming service on April 6, 2023, with Beef season 2 arriving on Netflix on April 16, 2026. This time around, the Netflix thriller series is reinventing itself, and that means it continues a major Hollywood TV show streak that Netflix knows well.
Beef Season 2 Continues A Major Anthology Streak
When Beef season 1 was released, the Netflix project was viewed as a limited series. To that end, season 1 perfectly wrapped up the stories of Steven Yeun’s Danny Cho and Ali Wong’s Amy Lau, with the two going from rivals after a road rage incident to friends by the end of the season. However, Netflix renewed Beef for season 2.
Beef season 1 has a near-perfect 98% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In doing so, the streamer announced that Beef would be following an anthology format, with new casts, characters, and stories each season. In Beef season 2, Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan play the bosses of Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny’s characters, with both couples feuding after the latter catches the former during an intense discussion. Beef‘s format change continues a major streak.
After all, Beef is not the only recent case of a limited series becoming a multi-season anthology after a successful first season. Popular cases include shows like HBO’s The White Lotus and Netflix’s own Monster, both of which found immense success with follow-up seasons as anthologies. As such, one of Netflix’s best thriller series is on the right path.
Why Netflix’s Beef Is Perfect For The Anthology Format
As its title states, Beef is not dependent on any set of characters, with Netflix never being able to run out of possible beefs to explore. The show’s core concept can be adapted for any set of characters, scenarios, and locations that its creators can think of. As long as top-notch talent is involved in front of the camera, Beef should continue to be a hit.
