Netflix‘s new 8-part crime series earned a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and is already one of its best shows for a one-night weekend binge. Just added to Netflix on Thursday, April 9, this new series debuted to a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score and is already a top trending streaming hit, ranking #4 on Netflix’s U.S. streaming charts heading into the weekend.
Netflix has seen a surge in original comedy series that have also become instant streaming hits, including recent releases like Free Bert and the upcoming season 2 release of Kate Hudson’s series Running Point. Comedy has proven to be a strong draw for Netflix viewers, especially those who enjoy a mix of humor and crime elements. The new 8-part Netflix series Big Mistakes fits perfectly into that category as a crime-comedy hybrid series that is already a must-see Netflix great.
Netflix’s New 8-Part Crime Series Is Already One Of Its Best
Based on its near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%, which is subject to change over the weekend, Big Mistakes is the latest Certified Fresh series on Netflix and can safely be called one of its best new shows of 2026. Co-created by Emmy winner Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek) and Rachel Sennott (I Love LA), Big Mistakes offers viewers a strong combination of laughs, thrills, and strong performances, all across just 8 episodes.
Big Mistakes is similar to Apple TV’s crime comedy streaming hit Your Friends & Neighbors, starring Jon Hamm, in that it involves petty crime, family drama, and A-list star power. The story follows Nicky and Morgan, two adult siblings who are tasked with buying a sentimental gift for their dying grandmother. To do so, they commit a small crime involving a valuable gift that has enormous consequences and deepens their involvement in organized crime.
Nicky and Morgan’s initial theft is the catalyst for their chaotic story as they try to navigate their messy lives while also running from a group of dangerous thieves. They encounter a feared crime boss named Yusuf, who demands that they fix the problem they caused for his criminal organization by stealing a high-value item. This sparks a domino effect in which every time Nicky and Morgan try to resolve the issues, it only makes matters worse for them.
One of the biggest draws to Big Mistakes is its stellar cast, led by Dan Levy, Taylor Ortega, and Oscar nominee Laurie Metcalf. Together, they create an “anxiety comedy” vibe, which has become popular with recent movies like Uncut Gems and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and series like The Bear. If you love tense crime thrillers but enjoy a bit of levity and family drama as well, then Big Mistakes is an ideal choice to watch this weekend.
Big Mistakes Is Worth A Quick Weekend Binge On Netflix
With a total runtime of 4 hours and 23 minutes, Big Mistakes is worth a quick weekend binge on Netflix this weekend. If you enjoyed either Schitt’s Creek, which won 9 Emmys and is widely considered one of the best comedy shows of the 21st century, or the new HBO Max series I Love LA, then chances are you will find a lot to like about Dan Levy’s new crime comedy series.
Critics are raving about Big Mistakes as it tries to land Netflix’s #1 spot in the U.S. and crack into its worldwide streaming charts. The Lamplight Review writes, “A pleasant surprise and a worthy binge series that vibes like a darkly comedic cousin of Schitt’s Creek wrapped in an organized crime suspense thriller.”
In the same vein, Collider gave the show 7/10 stars, noting “Big Mistakes is a bold, action-packed, often suspenseful, and at times uncomfortable crime thriller that operates at a speed that would break traffic laws in Schitt’s Creek.” Similar to Netflix’s other breakout hit, Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, Big Mistakes is poised to be the best new show to binge this weekend on Netflix.
