New Baldur’s Gate 3 Spinoff Officially Announced

There’s no doubt that Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the best games of the last decade or more, and easily one of the most competent adaptations of Dungeons & Dragons that we’ve ever seen to video games. The sheer amount of player choice and different worlds to explore really does feel endless, and you can sink hundreds of hours in without seeing everything it has to offer.

As such, it’s little surprise that the game’s considerable community remains so fascinated with it, with thousands of players still logging in to give it a go each day. What is much more surprising is that we have seen very little of Baldur’s Gate 3 in other mediums, but that’s all about to change, and it could be one of the coolest adaptations we have seen to date.

Over on Instagram, Dark Horse Comics shared a post confirming that a new comic series tied to Baldur’s Gate 3 is on the way soon. Judging by the picture, Karlach is likely to be a major focus (which can only be a good thing), though the publisher didn’t go as far as detailing exactly what fans can expect at this juncture.

As you might expect, the comments were filled with excited fans of the game who can’t wait to see what stories the comic books are planning to tell. “Our favorite tiefling cinnamon bun is getting a comic about her!” one comment read.

While another added, “This is exactly the kind of content we need more of,” and a third said, “This could be really great if Wizards let the writers cook!”

The comic was revealed as part of the ongoing San Diego Comic Con festivities, though details are very thin on the ground at this early stage. There is no release date for the upcoming series just yet, though it could well be the beginning of 2027 before we get to see what they have been cooking up.

In the meantime, almost all of the focus at Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios is on their upcoming release Divinity, which is the seventh game in that wider universe. That was the game which was the subject of much speculation at The Game Awards last year, after a giant monolith was left in the desert to signal its pending announcement. If the developer manages to recapture a similar magic to the game above, then we should be on to a winner.
