- Marvel has debuted a new teaser for Wonder Man
- The Disney+ show will be released in January 2026
- Its latest round of footage seems to include a huge story spoiler
Marvel has released a new trailer for its forthcoming Wonder Man TV series – and it appears to spoil one of the show’s biggest surprises.
The metatextual sitcom was originally due to drop in December. However, while Marvel announced its release had been pushed back to next January at New York Comic-Con (NYCC) 2025, the comic titan isn’t resting on its laurels when it comes to promoting its next Disney+ TV Original.
We should be happy that more footage has dropped then, right? Not if you’re trying to dodge spoilers ahead of the Marvel Phase 6 TV show’s launch, because Wonder Man‘s new teaser appears to include a potentially huge plot twist. I’ll discuss what’s shown in more detail after the teaser below, so turn back now if you’re actively avoiding Wonder Man spoilers.
At the 0:35 mark, part of a restaurant-based scene involving Yahya Abdul Mateen-II’s Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery shows the former get increasingly anxious about potentially missing out on the lead role for a remake of the in-universe superhero movie ‘Wonder Man’.
As Williams’ agitation grows, we start to hear the rumblings of… something. A concerned Slattery looks down at the table the pair are sat at, and we see the contents of Williams’ drink, the glass it’s in, and the wooden table start to shake.
The implication here is that Williams seems to possess superhuman abilities. And, if there’s any doubt about that, the teaser’s final clip doubles-down on that story beat.
Indeed, when Williams arrives at his audition for the ‘Wonder Man’ film remake in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), he’s asked to sign a disclaimer confirming he doesn’t possess superpowers. Williams passes that off with a simple and calm “yeah”, but the tense music that plays over the clip indicates otherwise.
How does Wonder Man get his powers in the comics?
The fact that Marvel is all too happy to tease Williams’ superhuman status this early in its promotional campaign raises two big questions.
First, what other surprises lie in wait for viewers ahead of Wonder Man dropping in full on January 27, 2026? And, second and by no means least, when and how did he get his superpowers?
I can’t answer the first, but I can lift the lid on the latter from a source-material perspective.
In the comics, Williams gains superhuman abilities through a series of ionic energy-based experiments conducted by Baron Zemo. That happens after Zemo springs him out of prison after Williams is incarcerated for embezzling funds – this was his brother’s idea, FYI – to prop up the munitions company that Williams inherits after his father’s passing.
It’s unlikely that Wonder Man will directly adapt Williams’ superhuman origins story. After all, everything I outlined in the above paragraph is just a snapshot of a far more convoluted origins tale that Marvel is likely to have streamlined for Williams’ live-action debut. Wonder Man should explain the titular character’s superhuman backstory at some point, but I’d be shocked if it hasn’t been rewritten for his MCU introduction.
