New information has emerged regarding the murders of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner

In newly unsealed court documents obtained by E! News, a grand jury indictment charged their son Nick Reiner with the murder of his parents at their Brentwood, Calif., home on Dec. 14, alleging that he intentionally killed his parents by means of lying in wait.

“In legal terms, ‘lying in wait’ refers to a situation where an individual intentionally hides or waits for an opportunity to ambush their victim with the intention of causing death,” according to a definition by experts at the Eisner Gorin legal defense firm. “This premeditated action demonstrates a high level of malice and intent.”

In Nick’s case, the indictment—which was publicly released on Aug. 12— alleged that the 32-year-old “personally used a deadly or dangerous weapon,” in this case a knife, to carry out the murder.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman shared in an Aug. 12 press release, “This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing.”
