Nintendo Direct Leak Suggests Fans Should Get Ready

[

It’s almost the first anniversary of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, and new leaks are hinting that we may just be about to get a Nintendo Direct with new games for the system. Despite having many exciting games for the Switch 2 debuting in recent months, there are several key games that fans have been anticipating announcements for, including a new Animal Crossing title.

Of course, leaks and rumors can never be trusted until anything is officially confirmed, but this one sounds as though it’s pretty likely to be true. Earlier today on Reddit, one user shared a quote from Jeff Grubb of GiantBomb from their Twitch show on May 19, 2026.

The Reddit post says very little, other than that there could be a Nintendo Direct by mid-June. Taken in context of the show’s discussion, however, it sounds as though this was more a general discussion and supposition than knowledge, and is based on the fact that Summer Game Fest 2026 will be taking place earlier in the month.

Nintendo generally tends to shy away from big shows, such as Summer Game Fest, preferring instead to hold their own Nintendo Direct events separately, and often coming as sudden surprises to the gaming community. However, given that June is traditionally such a hyped-up time for game announcements, the company would only be hurting themselves if they didn’t take advantage of the extra excitement they would get if they held a Nintendo Direct in the middle of June.

Additionally, the timing would coincide nicely with what is already laid out for known Nintendo releases and the rumors of a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Plus, the summer season is the ideal time to start providing release dates, or at least teasers, for games that will be coming out in the holiday season.

Another factor Grubb could be thinking of in his mid-June timeline for a Nintendo Direct is the recent surprise announcement of Star Fox launching on June 25. While Nintendo wouldn’t want to detract from the excitement of a franchise as large as Star Fox, having a Direct near its release could also give the game an extra little push if it is highlighted again.

Sadly, nothing has been confirmed yet from Nintendo about when the next Nintendo Direct will take place. Though the leaks and rumors for mid-June make perfect sense, Nintendo’s latest Star Fox Nintendo Direct also could be a sign that the company is taking things in an entirely different direction and has plans to hold surprise individual Directs for big games at seemingly random times, rather than a large event to coincide with other game company announcements. So, ultimately, we will just have to wait and see. But it’s always fun to think about.
