- A former Nintendo sales lead says a Switch 2 price increase is ‘inevitable’
- Tariffs, the AI boom, and widespread economic struggles may end up being responsible
- Nintendo fans are effectively urged to buy now before the Switch 2 is more expensive
Both gaming PCs and consoles are being hit with significant price hikes due to the ongoing RAM crisis and economic struggles. Unfortunately, it means one console won’t completely avoid the impact after all.
As reported by GamesRadar, a former Nintendo sales lead, only known as Sean, warns that a Nintendo Switch 2 price increase is ‘inevitable’, despite the game company being able to hold out on price hikes since the handheld device’s launch.
This comes after Sony recently implemented price increases for all PS5 hardware, six years after the base console’s launch, due to economic challenges. Ultimately, Sony’s move has increased fears that price adjustments for other console and PC hardware are imminent.

It’s now increasingly likely that Nintendo is the company next in line to increase the Switch 2’s price, and it won’t be the first time, either, as it previously increased the price for the original Nintendo Switch in 2025. Gamers were also warned that Switch 2 price adjustments ‘may be necessary in the future’, and that reality might be closer than ever before.
Speaking on Kit & Krysta’s podcast (hosted by former Nintendo employees) on YouTube, Sean said, “Unfortunately, I think eventually the hardware price is going to have to go up,” citing inflation and tariffs as a “nuisance” and major issues that aren’t going to disappear for a while.
It’s worth noting that RAM prices are very slowly beginning to fall, recovering from the AI boom that has been causing shortages, but that’s more than likely not going to stop a Switch 2 price hike.
“They [Nintendo] may be able to put off raising hardware prices for a moment, but I think it’s inevitable that they’re going up,” Sean said. “If you see a deal now [for the Switch 2], understand it’s likely as good a deal you’re going to see.”
The usual trend of hardware prices decreasing as a console or component ages is now working in reverse, and both Microsoft‘s Xbox Series X and Sony’s PS5 consoles are prime examples.
Let this be your final warning, Nintendo fans: it’s now or essentially never for anyone looking to buy a Switch 2 at a reasonable price, in the near future.
