Strands is the NYT’s latest word game after the likes of Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections – and it’s great fun. It can be difficult, though, so read on for my Strands hints.

After spotting PENGUIN and OSTRICH first I initially thought that we were searching for flightless birds.
After hitting a blank, and failing to take flight myself, I took a hint and was given RHEA, not a bird I know anything about. It wasn’t until seeing CONDOR that the penny dropped and I finally spotted the spangram.
My last word was CASSOWARY – another bird I was unfamiliar with and one that I tapped out in hope rather than knowledge. In all this round made me feel very ignorant of this particular flock.

What is NYT Strands?
Strands is the NYT’s not-so-new-any-more word game, following Wordle and Connections. It’s now a fully fledged member of the NYT’s games stable that has been running for a year and which can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
