OG Fallout Character’s Season 3 Return Officially Confirmed With Series Tradition Continuing

Fallout season 3 will continue a series tradition with one returning original character.

Based on the hit video game series, the popular Prime Video series hails from creators Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Following its premiere in 2024, the post-apocalyptic show returned for its sophomore outing last year. Fallout season 3 is now in production and eying a premiere at some point in 2027, with plenty of familiar faces expected to return.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Tatiana Hullender discussing Dale Dickey’s Emmy nomination for Widow’s Bay, Dickey confirms that she will be among the returning cast members for Fallout season 3. Dickey has played Ma June in one episode of each season so far, and the actor reveals that the upcoming third outing will continue this tradition. Check out her comment below:

I think people assume she’ll be back, and yes, I’m actually going to work on it next week. Ma June’s been in one episode each season, so I think it’s right to keep her going. People love the character.

And it’s the best wig ever! I wish you could see. There used to be things in the wig, like forks and bones and doll’s heads and stuff. And Barv, my wonderful assistant, would come in for that. I’m looking forward to being back on that.

I never get to see the whole cast. They’re all filming somewhere else. I’m not even sure where we’re filming yet! Everything’s a secret. But I’ll get to see Walton and Ella and Aaron when the season premieres, and then we’ll hug and all that good fun. It’s great to be a part of that. I love playing her.

In Fallout‘s larger cast of characters, Ma June is a relatively minor figure compared to the likes of Lucy (Ella Purnell) or The Ghoul (Walton Goggins), but she has been crucial to building out the post-apocalyptic world of the show. Dickey’s character is the proprietor of Ma June’s Sundries in Filly, and she gets several scenes with Lucy and The Ghoul as they search for Dr. Siggi Wilzig (Michael Emerson).

It remains to be seen how Ma June will feature in season 3, but the Fallout season 2 finale sets up a number of story threads ripe for further exploration. Continuing his search for his wife and child, The Ghoul is last seen heading east for Colorado, while Lucy could be wrestling with the consequences of using a mind control chip to wipe her father’s memory.

Maximus (Aaron Moten) also seemingly has a big role in the episodes to come as finds himself in the middle of an impending war over the future of New Vegas. How the story winds up returning to Ma June isn’t yet clear.

Fallout season 2 has set the show up for continued success moving forward, faring well both critically and in terms of viewership. On Rotten Tomatoes, the sophomore outing has a strong 96% from both critics and audiences. Season 2 was also a ratings win, boasting 83 million viewers worldwide across its first 13 weeks of availability.

It’s unclear whether Fallout will continue beyond season 3, but the creative team behind the show reportedly has at least five seasons mapped out. Given Ma June’s role so far, there’s certainly reason to believe Dickey will be reprising her role for at least one episode of every season to come.
