Pikachu Gets Official New Look In Latest Pokémon Redesign

[

For a franchise that’s lasted 30 years already, Pokémon has mostly stuck with the same designs of its Gen 1 creatures since the ’90s. Sure, there are new regional variants and gimmicks like Mega Evolution, and Pikachu has certainly gotten skinnier since the Kanto days, but the original designs have become so iconic, it’s probably difficult for Pokémon to shake up their looks too much.

That being said, Pokémon has given us a lot of cool new looks for Pikachu over the years. Even the upcoming Pokémon Winds and Waves games showed off new designs for Pikachu that were fun and vacation-themed. As the series’ mascot, Pikachu has gotten a lot of love (and new clothing) over the years. And now, we can add yet another new and official Pikachu design to that list.

Pikachu Wedding Plush From Pokemon Center

The new design is thanks to the Pikachu Wedding: Wedding Kimono Pikachu (Male) Plush, which is a 9-inch plush available on Pokémon Center for $29.99. This version of Pikachu wears a “black montsuki kimono with two Poké Balls on the front,” according to the official description, and makes a fun wedding gift. And yes, there’s also a Wedding Dress (Female) version.

We’ve seen these different kinds of Pikachu before: new designs revolving around holidays like Christmas and Halloween, as well as occasions like graduation (Pikachu getting its diploma) and seasons like summer (Pikachu in beach gear). There was even recently an official release of the “Fat Pikachu” from Gen 1 as a plush for the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Pokémon has never shied away from offering new designs of its mascot via merchandise, but it feels like we’ve seen an uptick in new Pikachu looks in 2026. This is probably because Pokémon is celebrating its 30th anniversary, which has seen a number of collabs and official releases already this year, with more arriving soon.

This new Wedding Kimono Pikachu is pretty cute, and it’d make a great wedding gift for a Pokémon fan in your life. For couples getting married, they could also make fun decor at the reception or (theoretically) cake toppers. With summer being wedding season, it’s an ideal time for Pokémon to have released something like this too.
