PlayStation Drops Free 138-Hour RPG You Don’t Need PS Plus For

[

There are plenty of great free games available via PlayStation Plus, including a handful of new games coming to Essential in April. Sometimes, though, you want to play a game that’s actually completely 100 percent free, right? Sometimes it’s nice to dive into a game that you don’t have to pay so much as a single dollar to play.

That’s where this new free-to-play PlayStation 5 RPG comes in. If you’re looking for a game to dominate your spare time that won’t cost you a penny, this is the game for you. Not only does it offer up at least 138 hours of gameplay, it’s free regardless of your PlayStation Plus subscriber status.

It may not have been on your radar, but Arknights: Endfield is a relatively new RPG that may appeal to Genshin Impact fans looking for their next fix. It’s based on the world of the 2019 mobile tower defense game Arknights, which already has a popular anime adaptation, because profitable IP moves faster than light these days.

The play-test for Endfield towards the end of last year gave players access to around 50 to 60 hours of gameplay, but there’s a lot more to it in the full game. According to How Long To Beat, you’re looking at roughly 49 hours of gameplay if you only focus on the main story. But if you really want to do and see everything the game currently has to offer, you’re clocking in at 138 hours. Mind you, Arknights: Endfield will continue to receive updates, so 138 hours is just the start.

Here’s the game’s official synopsis:

“Set in the universe of the hit mobile game Arknights, Arknights: Endfield introduces a new immersive story and a frontier world filled with exploration, real-time combat, and base-building. Players will command teams of up to four operators, all of whom will be fighting along their side simultaneously, allowing for skill combos, elemental synergies, and other coordinated strategies.”

While Arknights: Endfield is also available on PC and mobile devices, developer Hypergryph explained the game was designed with the PlayStation 5 in mind. That means it uses all the cool tech built into the DualSense controller, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the built-in speaker, and light bar effects. The game even features 3D Audio support, and Activities integration for the main story.

Whether you have PlayStation Plus or not, this game is completely free and well worth your time if you’re looking for a meaty RPG to really sink your teeth into. Or you could do what the rest of the world is currently doing, and dedicate all your spare time to either Crimson Desert or Pokopia. But you have to pay for those games like a sucker, so it’s really up to you.
