PlayStation Drops Massive Free Sandbox RPG With Huge, Realistic Open-World

[

The month of June has been great for gaming. Sony’s State of Play and the Xbox Showcase both dropped a load of new games to get excited about. But those games are a little while away, so what should we be playing right now? Well, if you’re a PlayStation Plus Extra subscriber, you’ve got two free games you can check out right now. One of those two happens to be one of the most realistic open world medieval adventures you can get your hands on.

For most of the world, these two games dropped earlier this month, but PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers in the USA, Japan and the UK are only getting to grips with these two extra games right now. And while Life is Stange: Double Exposure is a hit, the highlight of the month has to be getting Kingdom Come: Deliverance for free. Be warned, Henry’s first adventure is not for the casual gamer though. Audentes Fortuna iuvat!

While we’re all counting the seconds until pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI open, a distraction as good as Kingdom Come: Deliverance is always welcome. You play as Henry, a humble blacksmith’s son who is plunged into danger as you go on a quest to avenge your parent’s deaths and retrieve your father’s prize sword. While sounding like a typical hero’s journey, the game is far from conventional. The developers intentionally trade gaming comforts for realism and even the smallest skirmish can lead to a quick game over screen.

Managing your character’s needs like hunger, thirst and injuries while feeling weaker than a wet noodle can feel frustrating at first. But eventually leveling up your skills, honing your combat techniques and planning ahead for encounters feels rewarding. Every victory is hard-earned and satisfying and the choice to focus on realism rather than a power fantasy is genius. Turning Henry into a fearsome warrior is as challenging as it is rewarding in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Getting an amazing open world RPG like this for free is certainly a nice treat. And with a huge discount available for many for PlayStation Plus currently, there’s never been a better chance to jump on board and check out some of the great titles the platform has to offer. Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a hardcore gaming experience that isn’t for everyone but certainly may appeal to those who want a no-nonsense, immersive RPG that will challenge your skills.

The month of June has seen some very welcome additions to the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog. Games like Final Fantasy XVI, Sonic X Shadow Generations, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and Blades of Fire to name but a few. Plenty of variety to keep us all distracted until November 19, 2026. Kingdom Come: Deliverance alone offers anywhere from 40–130 hours of gameplay depending entirely on how thorough you want to be. So go, explore, and remember… fortune favors the brave!
