Pokémon Pokopia has been a huge success for Nintendo since it released, with the unique spin-off being a major contributor to the Switch 2’s record-breaking sales figures post-launch. Being one of the most creative Pokémon games and offering hundreds of hours worth of playtime from excavating, exploring, and building new homes for your favorite creatures, it’s not hard to see why it’s so popular, either.
While the recently announced DLC is about to make the experience even bigger with new areas and finally letting Ditto swim underwater, fans seem way more excited about a much easier-to-overlook feature that has been leaked to be arriving in Pokopia soon as well.
According to CentroLeaks on X, the expansion pass for Pokémon Pokopia will also be introducing the ability to dress up your favorite Pokémon in new outfits, which was hinted at by some retailers revealing the key after it was made available for sale before Nintendo announced it.
While fans are more than a little excited over the opportunity to create underwater cities in the new DLC, fans have been ecstatic over the leaked prospect of dressing up their favorite Pokémon, which is a sorely missed feature from previous entries in the series. Even though it wasn’t the most requested feature since launch, fans like FrankKirits have expressed that they’re far “more interested in that than the avatar customization.“
From dedicated players shouting that this is the “BEST NEWS EVER” to entirely new players seeing it as “the reason I finally buy it,” even players who were holding back on buying the expansion had to admit that they were “able to convince me again, damn it” with the introduction of Pokémon customization.
With the key art already hinting at some of the adorable designs we can expect to see in the full expansion release, it’s not hard to see why players are excited, either, as the Pokémon Contests from earlier entries in the franchise are still a beloved part of the series that many fans are eagerly waiting to see return in a new release.
Not everyone is as excited about the announcement, however, as some players think that it being “locked behind a paywall” isn’t the most consumer-friendly practice, while others lament the fact that while we are getting the feature in Pokopia, it highlights how disappointing it is that the feature hasn’t made its way into any of the new mainline games for quite some time now.
While it’s far too early to tell how fleshed out the concept will be, or if we see a feature similar to the Pokémon dress-up contests from previous entries in the franchise, hopefully it won’t be the last time Nintendo experiments with the concept if the rumored DLC feature becomes a hit with Pokémon Pokopia players.
