Pokémon’s First Official Multi-Region Game In Decades Has Gamers Seriously Losing It

[

Despite not having been officially confirmed by Game Freak, Pokémon Project Seed is reportedly the codename for a highly ambitious MMORPG rumored to currently be in development. Rumored to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 and featuring non-linear gameplay unlike previous Pokémon entries, it is set to be the biggest Pokémon game of all time by featuring all of the well-known regions we have known and love over the past three decades.

Other than the news that Pokémon Winds and Waves is set to kick off Generation 10 of the beloved Nintendo franchise, any other Pokémon information currently in the media comes as the result of insider rumors and leaks. So, with multiple games reportedly in development, it is hard to know what to believe.

Nevertheless, there is no denying that a possible region-hopping open-world MMORPG set in the Pokémon world is the most exciting of the rumors, especially as it seems like nothing that we have experienced so far.

Shared as part of a “leak” that reportedly shows Game Freak’s plans until up to 2030, Pokémon Project Seed may launch in 2029, and will take players across Johto, Sinnoh, Kanto, and Hoenn. With many of the latest Pokémon releases receiving criticism for its lack of ambition, it seems as though Game Freak may be deciding to change this on a massive scale.

As the Centro LEAKS Twitter/X account reads, “Pokémon Project Seed is not only the dream multi-region Pokémon game that people have always asked for, it also appears to be an MMO. “Seed is a prototyping project for a next-generation online game playable by multiple people, set in a region that connects Hoenn and Sinnoh””.

Following this social media post, Pokémon fans took to the comments to share their thoughts. “I can smell the micro-transactions,” one user joked whilst another said, “Please be real.”

Other than that, not much information has been revealed about this potential project, which makes sense considering it has not yet been officially announced and even if it is true, it is still a few years away from launch. However, fans were treated to potential concept art earlier this year. As always, it is worth taking with a pinch of salt.

Regardless of if Pokémon Project Seed is real or not, there is no denying that the Pokémon franchise is in desperate need of a next-gen makeover. With many of its Gen 9 titles being much of the same, keeping the same formula and features that are tried and tested, we need a shake-up, and a region-spanning MMORPG set in the Pokémon universe would definitely achieve that.

However, until it is confirmed by Game Freak itself, we remain in the dark.
