Power Rangers’ Tommy Oliver Return Gives the Green Ranger His Own Batmobile

[

One of the coolest things about being a fan of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers over 30 years later is just how timeless the original Saban Super Sentai localization has continued to be. Its characters are so beloved many have lived on in future series with characters like Billy Cranston mentoring entire new groups on TV, but their adventures have also gotten other recent renditions in the grand Power Rangers tradition. Lately, just ahead of the Summer 2026 season, there’s even been an impressive new wave of Power Rangers comics courtesy of BOOM! Studios such as Marguerite Bennett and Phillip Sevy’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

But as of August 5, 2026, Power Rangers: Green made a sharp debut of its own, featuring Paul Allor as its writer, with artist Gustaffo Vargas, lettering by Ed Duke, and covers by Tony Harris. The series focuses on an additional Tommy Oliver story set in the future, where he’s the last surviving ranger on Earth, joined by a repaired Alpha 5, Mirella Vex, and, surprisingly, Goldar as they face a new threat pushing to snuff out all those tinged with magic. But as revealed in Power Rangers: Green #1, Tommy debuted a magical tool of his own in the vein of the Batmobile, perfect for navigating this alternate future wasteland.

The Green Ranger’s Spin On The Batmobile Has A Magic Twist

As the story introduces an aged Tommy Oliver free from Rita Repulsa’s brainwashing, but still saddled with the guilt from his past actions, it seems this secluded life is far from a peaceful one with the entrance of Goldar. The former general under Repulsa and Lord Zedd’s entrance seemed reasonably likely to be a proper fight to bring Tommy back, but it’s quickly revealed as a desperate plea for help as what appears to be Scorpina has unleashed the Red Censer to destroy any creature tinged with magic. This threat prompts Tommy, Alpha, Mirella, and their new unexpected ally to stage a quick getaway in a repurposed vehicle strongly bearing Dragonzord vibes mixed with the crude land vehicle qualities of multiple modern Batmobiles.

But as shown in the very next page, this vehicle is far more than a great way to get around town. Its magic bombs appear to draw focus of the ominous approaching Red Censer’s dangerous energy attacks, to Goldar’s excited surprise. It even earns direct compliments to Alpha from the former antagonist. But while this moment is certainly one of the most visually striking of the new comic’s debut, it has hardly shown its versatility in battle and survival just yet, functioning mostly as a general vehicle for traveling long distances on difficult terrain, at least for now in Power Rangers: Green.

The Original Power Rangers Could Have Used Tommy’s New Ride

As seen in the first two issues of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ahead of issue #3 coming on August 26, a new threat from another realm has come for Earth in the form of Rita Rabiosa. Quick to make a dangerous impression and disarm the Power Rangers before they could regain their footing after 10 years of being disbanded, this particular Rita Repulsa successor is readily ravaging Earth’s technology, including almost completely overtaking the Zords. Were it not for the overpowering unity and raw might of the reassembled Megazord, Rabiosa’s parasitic crystals would have run throughout Earth unopposed as she sought her grim vengeance, Trini’s baby, Minh, as retribution for losing her own child.

But a vehicle powered more directly by magic and further removed from Earth tech could have been additionally helpful against Rabiosa’s threat, with there being a clear call for the Green Ranger of the present to rejoin the gang once more. Each issue provides thoughtful glimpses of an independent Tommy, with several advance previews proving his triumphant return as the Green Ranger of this continuity is coming soon. This iteration will be notably only 10 years older once more, very much sporting a suit more closely resembling the original than his hand-crafted version in the far future, but it means Power Rangers fans will be getting a much-needed double dose of Tommy in the coming months.
