Minutes after Madison Square Garden lit up with a special sign revealing Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tied the knot, rain began falling in New York City.
Not even just a few raindrops fell; rain began pouring down around the Garden, where the famed couple and their guests were celebrating their nuptials. And you know what they say: Rain on your wedding day is good luck.
The phenomenon is rooted in Hindu tradition, as “rain on the wedding day is also said to make a partnership stronger and longer-lasting because a wet knot, which signifies the act of getting married, is difficult to untie,” per Brides. The outlet also notes that Hindu communities developed the principle that rain on a wedding day will bless the couple with children, as rain creates fertile soil.
Friday night, Madison Square Garden displayed a “JusT&T Married!” sign, finally confirming they tied the knot. Swift’s longtime publicist also confirmed the news, revealing that the bride wore a custom haute couture gown by Jonathan Anderson of Christian Dior (which THR revealed earlier this week). Kelce also wore a haute couture look by Anderson for Dior.
They reportedly held a 100-person rehearsal dinner Thursday night at the Infosys Theater within the Garden, before making things official on Friday with a much larger celebration. Jason Sudeikis, Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, the Haim sisters, Dakota Johnson, Julianne Moore, Sombr, Mariska Hargitay, Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid were just some of the guests spotted arriving at the famed venue on Friday.
Also in attendance was Adam Sandler, who officiated the wedding. Swift and Kelce opted not to have bridesmaids and groomsmen; instead, Swift and Kelce’s brothers, Austin Swift and Jason Kelce, served as the respective man of honor and best man.
