Reacher Season 4’s Perfect 2026 Release Plan Gets Derailed

Alan Ritchson’s Reacher has the perfect release date for season 4, but a major TV development derails it. Despite of the odds following Tom Cruise’s short-lived movie adaptation of the famed Lee Childs books, Amazon Prime Video’s take on the character has been a major hit year after year. The adaption created by Nick Santora is set to return for Reacher season 4, which will tackle “Gone Tomorrow.” Production has been done for quite a while now, with Ritchson recently wrapping up post-production work as Jack Reacher.

While work on Reacher season 4 is likely in its final stretch, Amazon Prime Video has yet to make any announcements on when people can expect it to debut on their platform. Ritchson did confirm that it is coming sometime this year, which is fantastic news. Looking at its history of roll out might offer an idea about when it might exactly land. Seasons 1 and 3 were released in February — 2022 and 2025, respectively. Most interestingly, however, Reacher season 2 premiered in December 2023 and that might be the case again for its upcoming installment.

Looking at the bigger picture, Prime Video also has Maria Sten’s Neagley spinoff to slot in its schedule. The first offshoot from the budding franchise finished filming long before the flagship’s next season. If the idea is to follow the same pattern for its release, then Neagley should be coming out before Reacher season 4. This means that the Sten-led project, which will also feature some involvement from Ritchson, might roll out some time in the next few months, with its events potentially leading up to the upcoming events of the flagship.

Saving Reacher season 4 for a December 2026 release would perfectly work with this plan. Beyond that, however, doing a holiday release for the mothership can do wonders for its own viewership. Reacher is already an established brand at this point, so Prime Video has the luxury to release it anytime, and as long as it’s good, it will likely have good ratings. That said, strategically rolling it out at a time when most people are on holiday can significantly increase the number of people tuning in. This sets up Reacher season 4 to be the biggest season of the series thus far.

HBO’s Harry Potter Remake’s Release Gives Reacher Season 4 A Worthy Competition

This sounded like a seamless plan until HBO announced that the much-anticipated Harry Potter TV remake will have a December 25, 2026 release. Initially, there were assumptions that the project will debut sometime in 2027, as production for the film started on July 14, 2025, with principal photography expected to last until mid-2026. Between that and the extensive post-production work it needs to capture the magic of the Wizarding World, Harry Potter’s first trailer sure looks impressive.

Admittedly, the jury is still out whether remaking the beloved film series is the right call. That being said, it will likely draw major audience when it finally premieres at the end of the year regardless. People would be at least enticed to check it out, especially given the buzz that it generated with its first trailer. This will potentially give Reacher season 4 a run for its money — assuming that Prime Video does put it in the coveted holiday slot. As an established franchise with fans from multiple generations, HBO’s Harry Potter remake has the chance to be the last-minute show of the year.
