- A new “pick your own” Xbox Game Pass plan is reportedly in the works
- Windows Central claims the new formula will allow users to customize the content of their membership
- Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has also teased a new Discord partnership
Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Xbox Game Pass plan that would allow users to choose the content of their membership.
That’s according to Windows Central‘s Jez Corden, who claims sources told him that the long-term goal for the company is to make the subscription service “more flexible.”
This would align with what Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently said in a leaked memo to staff, in which she admitted the service was “too expensive” for players.

“Short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation,” the message, obtained by The Verge, reads. “Long term, we will evolve Game Pass into a more flexible system, which will take time to test and learn around.”
Corden claims that a “pick your own plan” formula for Game Pass is in the cards, where users would be able to decide what packages of content they want in their plan.
The idea, essentially, would mean players could remove Cloud Gaming from their plan to lower the price, and even remove content like the Fortnite Crew subscription service and add day-one Xbox games instead.
Windows Central also points out Microsoft’s leaked “Duet” and “Triton” codenames for Xbox Game Pass, which suggests new packages are in the works.
Players have reacted to the report, with some sharing their enthusiasm for the potential change, while others suspect Microsoft is “probably just figuring out a way to charge you slightly less money for significantly less content.”
“Please. I don’t need half the things I pay for,” one user in a Reddit thread said.
Another wrote, “Great! As someone who doesn’t use these bonuses, I will benefit from these changes.”
The report also comes as the Xbox CEO teased a new Microsoft and Discord partnership, writing on X/Twitter that they’re “teaming up again” as part of an effort to “make Game Pass more flexible for our players.”
Game Pass Ultimate currently features a month of Discord Nitro, so Xbox may be looking to evolve the offering.
The news comes after Xbox announced a price cut on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, as well as the removal of Call of Duty titles as day-one offerings.
Now, Game Pass Ultimate will cost $22.99 instead of $29.99 to per month, while PC Game Pass will go from $16.49 to $13.99 a month.
