After the smashing success of Resident Evil Requiem, one of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind is when Capcom will release the first DLC expansion to let them revisit the game once more. While there is already some replayability baked into Requiem thanks to the insanity difficulty and randomizer mods already in development, the upcoming DLC is already promising even more of what Resident Evil‘s latest entry does best.
While there might not be an exact date for when we can expect Resident Evil Requiem‘s first DLC just yet, a recent interview with both the director and producer has already offered two promising glimpses of when and what we can expect from the upcoming expansion.
As noted in the original interview with Denfaminico Gamer interpreted by Video Games Chronicle, Requiem‘s creators have confirmed that the first DLC expansion coming to the game will be a combat-focused mini-game rather than a story-focused experience. Promising to satisfy anyone who thinks “I still want to go wild” after completing the story, the creators also noted the mode will only be available for those who have already completed the campaign.
In terms of when we can expect to play the combat minigame for ourselves, Requiems producer recommends “clearing the main story during Golden Week will be just the right time” in Japan, which seems to hint that the upcoming mode might be released as soon as May 6, or sometime shortly after at the very least given that completing it in the timeframe will be “just in the right time” for the DLC.
Japan’s Golden Week lasts between April 29 and May 6.
Even if exact details haven’t been revealed other than that it’s in the final stages of development, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see it be another interpretation of the fan-favorite Mercenaries mode, which could even let you play as other characters from the story. Speaking of Requiem‘s story expansion, the creators also briefly discussed the state of the story expansion that fans have been patiently waiting for.
Unfortunately for Requiem fans, while we do know that the upcoming story expansion is still on the way, the creators didn’t have anything else to say about the project other than that it’s currently in the full production stage, and to “stay tuned” for future updates.
While there are plenty of theories about what the story DLC could be about, director Nakanishi directly answered one of the most popular questions from the ending of Requiem regarding the mystery of Leon’s wife. While he was still hesitant to reveal who it was, Resident Evil Requiem‘s director stated that the answer would in fact be revealed someday, but that “that ‘some day’ isn’t now.”
Even if there’s no telling whether we’ll have to wait until the story expansion or even the next entry in the series, there is still plenty of potential for character development and character revelations for Resident Evil Requiem to offer through post-launch updates.
