Roku just made a major tweak to its home screen – and not everyone is happy about it

Roku users, your home screen interface layout is changing again: you should now notice a new Subscriptions view available from your Roku device home screen, which keeps you up to date with content from the various services you’re signed up for.

As spotted by Cord Cutters News, this new section displays the programs you’ve most recently watched via your subscribed streaming services. There are also spots for new and popular films and shows from these services.

In theory, this should make it easier to keep track of content on platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Max, Paramount+, or Peacock, as long as you’ve signed up through the Roku interface rather than directly on the relevant apps and sites themselves.

It works automatically too: Roku will do the work of figuring out the subscriptions you have active, and what you’re currently watching through those subscriptions. It should make it easier to manage your viewing across multiple platforms.

Reaction to the change has been somewhat mixed, according to one Reddit thread. While several users are welcoming the innovation and the boost in convenience it might bring, others are asking how the feature might be disabled.

“The last thing I want to do is open an app right to the last sappy thing my wife watched,” opines one Roku user – but the new Subscriptions option can be hidden, like everything else in the home screen menu, via Settings > What to Watch.

Other users aren’t noticing much difference between the Subscriptions tab and the existing Continue Watching and What to Watch sections. It seems as though your mileage may vary depending on how many services you’re signed up to through your Roku.

Being able to subscribe to the best streaming services through other devices and platforms is fairly common now, and it can be more convenient to have everything in one place – but bear in mind you could miss out on the best pricing and bundle options.
