Sam Smith, Christian Cowan Engaged After 3 Years of Dating

Sam Smith is no longer dancing with a stranger.

After all, the “Unholy” singer is engaged to Christian Cowan after three years of dating, confirming to New York Times in an interview published July 28 that the fashion designer is their fiancé.

Smith also shared that the title of their Aug. 21 album Hazel Eyes is a nod to the color of Cowan’s irises, with several songs on the 12-track LP centered around their relationship.

“For me, there’s something radical about being queer in this time, in this world, and singing love songs,” the 34-year-old told the outlet. “I’m not going to allow the poison that I read and that I see to affect my way of loving.”

But Smith is also a muse for Cowan, 32, as well. In fact, the Grammy winner wore a 52-pound feathered ensemble designed by their partner to the 2026 Met Gala earlier this year.

“This look is a love letter to the king of fashion illustration,” Cowan explained in a May Instagram post, “and to my love, Sam.”
