SanDisk SSD deal: Top rugged portable drive gets a big discount

World Backup Day is a good reminder that fast, reliable external storage isn’t just convenient, it can save you from losing years of photos, projects, and important files.

I found a great deal on the SanDisk 2TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD, now down to $358 (was $533) at Amazon for the last day of the Big Spring Sale. This one features a Gen 2×2 connection, while the faster USB4 model is $420 at Amazon.

In the UK, the blazing-fast SanDisk Extreme Pro USB4 is now $329 (was £446) at Amazon.co.uk.

We’ve reviewed three SanDisk Extreme Pro iterations (here, here, and here) – and this beast of an SSD has impressed us every time.

The Gen 2×2 SSD offers read and write performance rated at up to 2000MB/s, and the forged aluminum chassis doubles as a heatsink to keep performance steady. Drop protection up to 3 meters and an IP65 rating help protect it against dust and water during travel.

If you’re worried about using the portable SSD to store sensitive documents or private media, you can rest easy as hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption and password protection help keep files locked down without slowing daily use.

The USB4 version, meanwhile, offers much faster speeds up to 3800MB/s read and 3700MB/s write, along with USB-C connectivity, backward compatibility with USB 3.2, and the same IP65 water and dust resistance.

While on sale in the UK, that model isn’t discounted in the US right now and sits at around $420. If you’re tempted by the extra speed, it’s worth pointing out that at full price this SSD is nearly $100 cheaper than the USB 3.2 2×2 version’s regular price ($523).

That said, for the price, you can’t go wrong with the USB 3.2 2×2 model at $175 off.
