‘Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo’ Movie To Be Directed by Anna Kendrick

EXCLUSIVE: Following the success of her directorial debut, Woman of The Hour, Anna Kendrick is reuniting with Netflix on her next directing gig and has set her sights on one of the studio’s high-profile adaptations. Sources tell Deadline, Kendrick is coming on to direct an adaptation of the Taylor Jenkins Reid novel The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo. Liza Chasin is producing through 3Dot Productions as well as Brad Mendelsohn for Circle Management + Productions and David Hinojosa.

Based on Reid’s sensational New York Times bestselling novel, the film follows a young journalist’s long awaited interview with Evelyn Hugo, an aging Hollywood starlet, who pulls back the curtain on her seven marriages, and as she tells tales of Hollywood scandals, betrayals, and woe, she unveils shocking truths about her own life and the lives of everyone around her. Liz Tigelaar penned the first draft of the script with Francesca Sloane currently working on revisions.

Jenkins Reid has sold over 24 million copies worldwide in 43 languages (including English). Additionally, she has built an impressive career that has garnered a dedicated following on social media. On TikTok alone, Taylor’s name has garnered 783 million views, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo gathering 759 million views. Her books have been chosen by GMA Book Club, Reese’s Book Club, Read with Jenna, Indie Next, Best of Amazon, and Book of the Month. Prime Video and Hello Sunshine produced a limited series television adaptation of Reid’s book Daisy Jones & The Six.

Her most recent novel Atmosphere was named Target’s 2025 Book of the Year and received the 2025 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Historical Fiction. In addition to its recognition as a Good Morning America Book Club Featured Pick, the novel also reached #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list.

While Kendrick has continued to stay busy on the acting front which has included reprising her role in Another Simple Favor, she has taken her time following her critically acclaimed directing debut on Woman of the Hour, the serial killer dating game pic for which Netflix paid eight figures when it hit the Toronto Film Festival market in 2023.

Following the success of that pic, Netflix worked hard to make her sure her next directing outing was with them and after looking through several scripts, Evelyn Hugo made the most sense given how high the studio has been on the property since landing the rights in 2022.

Next up on the acting front for Kendrick is the A24 pic Misty Green from director Chris Rock. She is repped by Range Media Partners, CAA and attorney Todd Rubenstein. Jenkins Reid is repped by Circle Management + Production, WME and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
