Sheriff Country Season 2 Gets Exciting New Production Update & Location Reveal From Returning Icon

[

Sheriff Country season 2 has received an exciting production update from a returning franchise icon.

The first season of the Fire Country spinoff debuted in October 2025, to positive response, with many praising the location, character conflicts, and strong central performance from Deadpool 3 star Morena Baccarin, as Sheriff Mickey Fox. CBS renewed Sheriff Country season 2 in December 2025, and a franchise icon has provided a positive filming update.

In a post on her Instagram from three days ago, Sarah Wayne Callies revealed she had wrapped directing on an episode of Sheriff Country season 2. Carousel photos revealed a stunning backdrop, with rolling hills, and farmland, and a film slate reveals that The Walking Dead star has finished filming a key part of Sheriff Country season 2, episode 3. Check out the post below:

This is the third episode Callies has helmed of Sheriff Country, and the Prison Break actress is no stranger to the franchise, having also directed four episodes of parent show Fire Country, one in each season. Callies brings experience behind the camera, as well as a strong understanding of the franchise and procedural storytelling, and this can only be a positive thing.

Whether she is set to direct future episodes is unclear at this time, and much will depend on how well Sheriff Country season 2 performs, and whether season 3 is greenlit. But fans will no doubt be excited to learn that the franchise icon is back behind the camera, having already directed Sheriff Country season 1, episode 8, ‘Death & Taxes,’ as well as episode 11, ‘Aftermath.

While Callies’ season 2 episode is yet to reveal plot details, Sheriff Country season 1 concluded with plenty of loose threads to continue exploring in season 2, notably the revelation that Eva Santos is actually Mickey’s mother. There’s a good chance the episode will explore elements of this plot thread remains to be seen, but it’s likely that whatever

The strength of Sheriff Country lies in its ability to evoke the strengths of Fire Country, while also feeling far enough removed to stand on its own two feet as a show. Buoyed by a dynamic central performance from Baccarin, strong character work, and impressive world building, a director like Callies feels like a natural fit for the show, and there’s a good chance she will be involved in future episodes.

Sheriff Country season 2 is set to drop as part of CBS’s fall 2026 lineup.
