Silent Hill Fans Will Love This New Official Remake Studio Update

[

Thanks in no small part to Silent Hill’s Bloober Team, the horror game landscape has never looked brighter. This would not have been a tenable statement if not for how well-received Bloober’s Silent Hill 2 remake was, especially when the consensus before its release was that Bloober, of all studios, being the one to remake it was a mistake, but Cronos: The New Dawn is proof that the developer can still strongly deliver with its own original IPs.

The tide has now turned in Bloober Team’s favor, with the developer’s official and upcoming Silent Hill 1 remake being met with high anticipation, rather than apprehension. This remake, as well as a considerable update to the studio in particular, is likely to define Bloober for the foreseeable future with a humongous slate of games that horror fans can look forward to.

Bloober Team Is A Hot Commodity For Horror

As per GamesIndustry.biz, “Bloober Team has expanded its leadership as it transitions to a multi-project structure,” while it is currently “working on two single-player horror games plus five more in co-development.” Bloober intends to have no fewer than two productions in development at any given time, reportedly, because “relying on a single title creates too much risk in today’s market,” according to CEO Piotr Babieno.

Bloober was already a well-known studio with a storied catalog of games, but the Silent Hill 2 remake put Bloober Team on horror fans’ radars in a way that forgave it for at least a few of its prior blemishes. Now that it is gaining new leadership and transitioning to a “multi-project structure,” it is clear that a lot of faith is being put into Bloober across its own IPs, Konami’s Silent Hill franchise, and collaborations with other developers.

Alongside the Silent Hill 1 remake, Bloober announced Layers of Fear 3 following a cryptic teaser counting down to its reveal on Valentine’s Day earlier this year, and one of its known collaborations is a Nintendo-exclusive project presently dubbed Project M.

When Will Bloober’s Silent Hill 1 Remake Come Out?

Because Bloober has its hands in so many cookie jars, it is difficult to say when the Silent Hill 1 remake may be released. However, since it was announced before Layers of Fear 3, it is fully possible that it could launch as early as 2027 and be at the top of Bloober’s priority list. If so, we might eventually come to expect a formulaic release schedule for a new Silent Hill remake and an original Bloober IP/sequel to followback-to-back.

The quality of Silent Hill 2’s remake was unprecedented, as Bloober Team had the unenviable task of remaking a revered psychological horror classic. Only time will tell if that same deep adoration for the original and its faithfulness in adapting and reimagining it will translate to its remake of the first Silent Hill game, though the bar for this remake will certainly be lower in general, with many fans preferring the sequel, anyway.
